Join director Jonathan Olshefski over the lunch hour as he presents photos and videos that were the genesis of his near decade-long project that ultimate became his feature film QUEST, which debuted at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. Learn how Olshefski's early photography project shooting Christopher “Quest” Rainey’s small recording studio and his collective of local hip-hop artists ultimately led to an intimate portrait of Quest and his North Philadelphia family.

Fresh from the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, QUEST is a intimate portrait of a North Philadelphia family pursuing their dreams amid everyday struggles and life-altering challenges. The tenth selection of our Vino Vérité series presented by Bread Garden Market.

Vino Vérité screening of QUEST on April 2, 7pm. Encore screening on April 8 in partnership with Mission Creek Festival.

ABOUT QUEST

Filmed with vérité intimacy over the course of a decade, the documentary feature debut of director Jonathan Olshefski is a tender portrait of one North Philly family. In a neighborhood tattered by neglect, we meet Christopher “Quest” Rainey, and his wife Christine’a, “Ma Quest,” as they raise their children and nurture the creative sanctuary offered by their home music studio.

Set against the backdrop of a country in tumult and political upheaval, Quest illuminates issues of race, class and community through one family's extraordinary everyday struggle. In this community, opportunity and hope must come from within, and the Rainey's proud resilience is a testament to the powers of fortitude, family, and love.
